There was something peaceful about working in a library in the early hours of the morning. Sure, it was creepy to everyone else to hear not a sound but that was because those who didn't tend to be human. The librarian working at this hour was not exactly human so he could hear the sound of the crickets outside and the movement of the birds as they woke up. He even smiled when he heard them begin their chirping. The husband of Nótt, Dellingr had come out to wake his son. Of course, Kai knew that wasn't true but even with his knowledge, it was comforting to think in his old religion even if it had been many many years since it had been worshipped.
He sighed and then concentrated on his work to do his best to not think of the past. Unfortunately, he failed and thought of them. Those gods hadn't even really been worshipped in his time, only his mother's people had followed the old gods. His mother's people and himself. He moved a stack of books onto the trolley he was moving around, making sure that he labelled them as needing repair. The books smelled of dust and they were probably going to fall apart within a couple weeks if not repaired soon. Which would be a shame because they were good books... Kai gently felt the book. He had read them multiple times when he had finished his duties and was merely looking over the library so he had a personal interest in keeping these books alive. He placed the trolley near the counter and brushed back his hair, looking at the library that was very much empty right now, being just before opening time.
He worked the night shift and was the only one currently who voluntarily did it. Of course, the elder vampire looked strange doing that because despite his actual age, he only looked eighteen. He was also fairly attractive, his white gold blond hair tied back in a braid. His brown eyes were deep and held hints of gold to them that were the same shade as his hair. His looks were asian but the tall vampire looked a bit masculane and had some muscle to him. At least at this point with his white t-shirt and black dress pants. Noting the time on a clock on the wall now, he went over to the front of the library and switched the sign to open. He then went over and grabbed a book before sitting down with it.
The book he had was 'the portrait of dorian gray' by Oscar Wilde. It was one of his favorite books even though it was a bit tragic. He began to read it, his hair glimmering in the half light of the library, as he waited for the person in charge of the next shift to come. He began to read the old english words, his delicate hands with very slight calluses turning the pages carefully. His face became at peace as he read and his mouth shaped itself into the words, the phrases that he read which were so familiar to him. for a moment, time seemed to still as it seemed to be the past, the future and the present at once. As Kai sank into the book's world, he smiled. it was the one thing he absolutely loved about books, they always stayed the same and kept memories of every time you read them.
